Bird watching places in the greater Taipei area

Although the IBAs (Important Bird Areas) recognized by BirdLife International include most famous birding sites in Taiwan, many great birding sites in Taiwan are not listed in the IBA list. For this reason, I created a google map that shows most popular bird watching places in the greater Taipei area as below.

These sites are the most visited sites by the local birding fans. Most of the sites are not listed in BirdLife International's IBAs, but they host large amount of bird species, some of which don't even appear in BirdLife International's IBAs. Always ask the locals for great birding sites if you ever come to Taiwan for bird watching.

Taipei City is the capital of Taiwan. I created this map because currently I do most of my birding nearby. Once I extend my birding range to other places of Taiwan, I'll create more maps for anyone who want to do bird watching in Taiwan. Thanks for your visit.

Taiwan Important Bird Areas Map

If you don't know where to find birds in Taiwan, here is the IBAs (Important Bird Areas) map(click to view map). IBAs are selected by BirdLife International, a Partnership of 117 national conservation organizations worldwide.

IBAs show the most famous bird watching sites in Taiwan, but many of the popular birding sites are missed. If you ever want to travel to Taiwan for a bird watching trip, it's also a very good idea to consult local birding enthusiasts. Taiwan local birdwatching enthusiasts usually hang around in city parks, botanical gardens, wetlands, etc. They know best birding sites which are missed in BirdLife International IBAs map. They are mostly friendly retired persons. Many of them can speak english. Carrying a digital camera (mostly Canon or Nikon) with a big long-range lens and many also carrying a tripod, they are easy to identify. No need to feel shy to say hello to them and to chat with them.
